Mk2 Golf Chat / MK2 golf 1.3, 1989 5 speed gearbox oil check
Whilst in my sons golf the other day, i heard what i thought was a knackered wheel bearing, rumbling sound. Couldn't tell weather it was front or back but it was passenger side. He has gone on holiday, so i got it in the work shop and jacked the passenger side up, and spun the wheels. Both didn't seem noisy. As we replaced the rears a few months ago, i decided to replace the front one to rule it out. Whilst on the stands, i wanted to check the gearbox oil, as there is a slim chance its that? Every where i googled this, it talks about a drain plug at the bottom and a refill plug just above and to the right, on the side. I don't have the refill plug. i have the drain plug but cant see any plug on the side anywhere. And the gear box has recently been Gunk cleaned, so i haven't missed it. I must have a different gearbox? This is definitely the original box as it was a 2 owner barn find with £70k miles on clock. Any body got any idea what box is in it, how i check the oil and how i refill it?
Thanks

Mk2 Golf Chat / engine carrier frame replacemnet
I did'nt attempt the other side control arm, given the hassle and swearing!
As i've replaced everything else, i think its a good time to put a new carrier frame in. Question is, can i do this whilst leaving the engine and steering rack etc in place? from the looks of it i can undo everything, hold the engine in place with engine hoist and drop the sub frame away from underneath. then replace the engine mounts etc and put the new one back up from underneath and then attach the control arms.
Anybody know if this will work?
Also are the carriers / sub frames the same for all engine models of the same year or do they change? mines a 1.3.

then copy and paste the part number for item 4 and put that into google or one of these parts places, the image is completely different, its s a third of the size. That is whats confusing.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Mk 2 1.3 golf 1988 front brake dust covers
So i completely renewed the rear bean the other week, found a used beam on ebay, had it shot blasted and coated and renewed the back brakes, all relatively cheap to buy i thought. All went well, so now i'm going to do the front. I've bought the control arms, ones with the larger ball joints which i hope is correct as its change over year.
I'm a bit hesitant though as i bought the front disc brake dust covers from same place and they are wrong. they sent the 1/3 type covers, and on inspection, mine are 3/4 type ones, going all the way around the disc, apart from caliper slot. I cant seem to find online, anywhere that gives me the correct parts? does anybody know the part numbers of the 3/4 disc covers or where i can buy a set of new or good S/H to be blasted and coated? Mine are not vented discs by the way.
Any help much appricated
