@Monkey I've just received my headlining from headliner world, I'm curious how you redo the sun visors. Especially the hinge bit. Do you have any pictures of yours or any advice? Thanks
My 8v gti pb idles high when it warms up, normally about 1100rpm but seems to idle higher if I drive it harder. My isv does vibrate with the ignition on and my vacuum lines have been changed. Any1 ever had this or know the problem? Thanks
OK, I have ordered a switch thanks, something I have noticed is the car has been fine now since around the time i posted last on this thread. Could be a coincidence but I haven't had the radio on. I did read online some1 had issues which turned out to be something behind the radio. I did change the radio a while back but can't remember exactly when or exactly when this cutting out started.
They come on as normal when I turn the key to start the car but don't come on when it's cut out and back in. It died again on my way home from work coming round exactly the same corner as last time. Luckily it stopped outside the shop I was nipping in anyway, when I cam out it started like normal and drove about 30seconds more home with 1 cut out then back in.
Sorry when I said no lights on the dash I meant they don't come on like they do when u 1st turn the key. Does it still sound like ignition switch? Thanks
Finally got round to checking that earth which seems OK to me, it's not loose or broken. I have no clue when it comes to electrics. Since I started this thread the car has actually completely turned of 3 times. 2 of those times it's taken a while to start again. I did notice the fuel pump prime after it died but still no lights on the dash, also the rev guage flicks round (higher revs) when it cuts out then back in but the actual engine cuts out. No idea if this is connected but my water light comes on now and again but my coolant is on max, it also comes on when I turn high beam on some times.
My 8v gti cuts out for a split second then cuts back in, almost like I've let off the throttle and got back on it. However I can't replicate it by doing that. No lights come on and I haven't noticed the rev guage dropping or any other signs from the cluster. It's done it whilst I'm crawling along just touching the throttle and while my foots down. It hasn't done it whilst ticking over yet tho. Any ideas guys?
I've don't a compression test and the results are Dry 175 175 30 30 Wet 185 185 40 40 I assume where all the result went up on the wet test the rings are OK, so head off new gasket and re seat the valves?
Forgot to mention I was driving when it started happening so I'm pretty sure the firing order is correct, I had driven about 8 or 10 miles but it did misfire about half a mile into the journey. We also removed the injectors and pointed them into a tub while turning the car over. All 4 looked to be pumping the same amount of fuel. I have borrowed a compression tester and plan to do that this weekend. Thanks for the responses.
The mk2 has started running on 2 cylinders, I've swapped plugs, leads and injectors from 3 and 4 to 1 and 2 and its still 3 and 4 not firing. I also checked 3 and 4 for a spark. A bit of research online suggests its probably the headgasket between the 2 cylinders. Is there a possibility of a different issue before I get the headgasket done? It's a 1.8 8v gti pb Thanks Doug
I haven't actually checked the condition of the pulley, it's been alright so far since the last tightening. So I think @Eddypeck is correct about the thickness.
The adjuster bolt was seized but managed to free it up with heat. Pivot bolt was loose and I could move the pump up and down by hand. I noticed the new belt has worn probs about 1mm on 1 side so is probs about 10mm wide now, I assume cos it's thinner it's sat depper in the pullets and causing it to be loose. I've tighted it back up and tightened the bolts. Hopefully it's sorted now. Thanks
My power steering belt keeps getting loose and squeeling, I got a new belt same make and part number as what was fitted dayco 11a0730c I think 11mm wide 730mm long?? Mine goes around the crank, p/s and water pump. It was very tight getting it on, was good for 10miles then started squeeling again. I tensioned it so I could get a 1/4 turn along the bottom of the belt and did the bolts up as tight as I dare without snapping them. Any1 have any ideas? Thanks doug
