Second butterfly a bit stiff - but will free up with some attention, it does rotate. Gaskets are in good condition. I’ve given it a light refurbish through the parts cleaner.
Power Steering, Central Locking including fuel cap, Factory Sunroof, Matching Michelin Tyres. In the 4 years I've owned it, it has been utterly reliable, never let me down. I've been through the car mechanically (my 4th Mk2 Golf) and it's A1. Heater Works as does the blower fan. New wheel bearings in the rear, those are the only things that came up on the last MOT as an advisory. New radiator, water system is now A1, no leaks. Doesn't burn oil, I check the dipstick on occasion but the level never moves. This is due to its early life, it was only driven 1000 per year for the first 20 years, so the engine was perfectly run in. I have all the MOTs from new to prove this. Have a folder of all receipts too. The first owner also put the tyre spec sticker in the boot so you know it's always had Michelins. Dent Wizard came out and went over it when I bought it, it's not perfect and has a few dings, but from a distance you wouldn't notice. Could do with a clay going over it and a wax, not really my thing - prefer the mechanical side. Pierburg 2E2 has been refurbished during my ownership by Coln Engineering. Options sticker is still in the boot. Grey interior is perfect, much nicer than the blue interiors in my opinion. Oh, I took the cloth off the headliner as it was sagging. I'd probably Raptor spray the headliner now if I was keeping it. Easy job to remove the headliner, takes about 40 minutes. Bought one of those FISCHER Centre Console Cassette Tape Holders as it still had its original stereo/ tape player. It's been a very cheap car to run, parts are very reasonably priced from VW Heritage. Always garaged. It receives very positive attention, so be prepared to answer questions about it.
1, Checking current levels. ATF dipstick, fairly obvious. Oil level should be between two circles on dipstick. Check with engine on, at idle and in neutral.
2, Filling & Draining, Haynes suggest top up through the dipstick tube. That's fine, it's abut 25mm diameter. I guess we'll find the drain plug easily enough, underneath.
3, How much oil? I've heard you can only put 50% volume in anyway as the gearbox retains the other 50% in the torque converter, true? 6.0 litres from dry, 3.0 litres service & drain.
4, What type of oil; DOT 4? What is the VW reference number or recommendation?

Better give it a wash I suppose... MOT needed two items: 1. Fuse No.2 was missing, OSF headlamp wasn’t working. 2. NSR Wheel bearing. Advisory: Coolant leak, bad 8mm hose from expansion bottle to radiator and crack in expansion bottle.

Black trim next. ^^ Went with 90 degrees clockwise on the throttle stop screw and it’s purring like a kitten.[emoji106]
Recommend Carplan, black trim wax. Brush on, wipe off for best results.
Stuck my nuts in the parts washer, not as painful as it sounds!
Lowered it on -30mm Eibach springs. Should settle a bit too, from experience. Firmer, better ride.
Picked up a 5 door with sunroof headliner today in the T3 [emoji846] very fragile The nightmare begins...
It is done, needs to settle a bit before final fix but certainly very quiet in there now and an interior light, luxury! Light goes off after 5 seconds of door closing which I thought was a nice touch.
Could do with some matching dark grey sun visors and C pillar covers. 1993-2019 all the MOT’s

Swapped the radiator out, pretty easy. Best done in this order: Remove: Front grill, front vents, fan, top brackets, bottom hose, top hose, expansion hose, jiggle it out.
Got given this VW roof rack.
Changed the rocker cover gasket and started cleaning the head up a bit. You can actually see some of it under the grime now. I should really sort out a few dings in the bodywork next though, before I start any mild engine detailing. I also need to change out the previous owners 22mm copper pipe bypass too from the heater matrix. I’ve found what I think are suitable replacement pipes.

Auto should be useful on the commute too. A more sedentary pace I imagine being a 1.6L, but I am cracking on these days so...
...and the bus can continue to stay dry in winter. I’ve just noticed, the colours seem very similar. Any ideas on Golf paint code options for 1990? (Bus is LH5U Metallic grey (although it’s blue?)
