Hi, afraid to say they are different mounts, although both front, central of engine they have different brace brackets and bushes, seem to recall the bush on the mk1 was held in place by tension between the male and female bracket whilst the 84 mk2’s were held in place by an inner bush plus mounting bracket which bolted into a retaining bracket, so more of a complicated design. That's a great help, thank you. Trying to find a early front central mount will be a challenge I really would like to keep it original and not go hydro mount.
Hope helps
I’m afraid I don’t know so can’t give you an answer. But I’m tempted to say I doubt it at the front panel arrangement of a mk1 and 2 are very different.I wouldn't know where to start Eddy with any parts catalogue.
Can you use one of the parts catalogue sites to check and cross reference?
Do you have a multimeter? if so you can test the coils primary and secondary resistance quite easilyUnfortunately no I haven't am sure I can get hold of one, but unless YouTube can guide me I'd be lost.
Does a k-jet even have a hall sender? 16v might but I don’t think an 8v does. There’s no ECU.With the help of Google https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/034998065-hall-sender-for-1-8-gti.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw5s6WBhA4EiwACGncZdcdOJad5rm-e7JdXiywcOJpBqeAtALmRhcnoB8yo2eHMnrUwi8uhxoCmCwQAvD_BwE unless am completely confused., wouldn't be the first time.
I could be talking crap, if there is one. It must be the only thing I never needed to change lol
No, I had my Golf transported recently. I think I paid £54 (but mine is a runner), look up AnyVan. they were very good. I think though the mobile Auto Electrician is your best option.I totally agree you have been a star I think it's the hall sensor, am going to purchase one and arrange a mobile mechanic.
Unlucky, I'd now be all over it with a multi-meter guided by a wiring diagram. I'd be searching for the failed component or broken connection. I suspect that is not within your skill set?A genuine bosch coil is approx £55 I haven't given the hall sensor a thought until you mentioned it.
If not a mobile auto electrician that is familiar with old cars / old ignition technology is probably your best way forwards. A coil is about £30 and a hall sender about the same again. I feel it is likely to be one of these two components, most probably the hall sender. How much would it cost to have it diagnosed?
I’m still sticking with the advice I gave previously. Check all of the wires around the coil and dizzy. All you have to do is start the car, stay clear of the moving parts snd start pulling wires. Only touch HT with insulated tools. If the engine stops you have most likely found your fault.Thank you I've honestly taken on board all advice I can not find anything that stands out, all the connections look OK.
Only once the simple stuff is eliminated move on to more complex things and spending money.
One thing to bear in mind, most fuel/k-jet related issues will not be intermittent (unless related to the WUR, where the issue is only when cold/hot), the symptoms are normally hard to start, rough running, or lack of power.thinking about it Eddy it has been a pig to start once warm for awhile, when it's cold first turn of the key.
I'm tempted to think your issue is not related directly to the fuel system. It could be indirectly related, say a broken wire to one fuel pump which makes contact, and then doesn't.
As per your original comment you mention coil. Ideally, you need to determine which you don't have fuel (pressure) or spark.
My GTi is a Digifant, if the fuel pump failed I wouldn't expect it die instantly, it would struggle on for a short distance as the pressure in the rail reduced. You know it is not the fuel pump relay and based on your description of how it failed I suspect an ignition failure.Am at the point I can not even trust it to drive to a garage, I might have to get a mobile mechanic to look at it or at least take out a yearly roadside recovery (apparently some don't accept classic cars)
First off I would check all electrical connections around the dizzy and coil. You are looking for fatigue and broken strands and or corrosion. If you find nothing carry a basic tool kit so you can investigate while waiting to be recovered.
