Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: Looking for window trims for back windows
This could be expensive if you bought all new..so I suspect a mix of secondhand and new will be the most cost effective.
The easy fix bit:
You need the Metal "J" shaped channels on the bottom of the window, you should be able to get these secondhand from Brendon Moss or Matthew Palmer (MK2 Spares) both on that Facebook thingy site. You might have to nag them to respond, I guess they are both very busy
You need to be careful that you don't scratch the paintwork when you pull these up off the door (maybe use an old store card under your flat-bladed screwdriver quarterlight end first...but be very careful). I guess the fact they have rusted through may make it obvious how they fit. remove the rubbers first.
The "J" shaped window rubbers, I did originally buy second hand front rubbers from a scrappy and cut them (as you can see they shrink) but they don't seal very well so have bought new for circa £20 each from Classic VW, as recommended by Ken. Be aware postage is £6.50 so you may want to order a few items at the same time
The harder Fix:
It also looks like the "felt channel" for the wind-up window needs replacing. You should be able to get some good secondhand ones from the guys above. I think you will need to remove the window to sort that since it goes most of the way down the channel from memory - that is a little more involved to resolve.
Finally the rubber round the rear quarterlight (small window) has shrunk, gone a bit mis-shaped. Hopefully you can get some good secondhand ones, not sure where you can get new but either way this does mean taking the door apart and removing both windows.
I've had a search on You Tube but can't see a vid on replacing the quarterlight rubber on a MK2. However someone on here may be able to share some pics to help you. I might be able to post some pics when I replace my rubbers.
Doing the easy stuff would certainly improve things
copying from a similar post updated by Ken:new seals see mark @ https://www.classic-vw.co.uk/seals-686-c.asp
2nd user stuff try brendon at dubstock @ https://www.dubstockltd.co.uk/ , and matthew palmer @ https://mk2sparesuk.business.site/
i've fitted new seals front, sunroof and rear screens, from items from mark, and 2nd user from matthew.
That is a great help will try those places - thank you very much, Lucy
