In a similar position, current looking for somewhere in Hertfordshire or north London. Although I’ve not used them myself, Stealth Racing in Southam have an excellent reputation. Let us know where you go and how you get on!
I did ask if headliner world could retrim one of their headliners in the original patterned fabric from VW heritage - they got a sample and gave it a go, but apparently found it very difficult to make it look good because the fabric wasn’t at all stretchy so didn’t fill the creases and corners very well.
It might be possible to get a good result, perhaps there are different techniques that could be employed.
I think it’s been stuck. There’s a little bit of give but not much.
Speaking of which, if you do the sunroof panel too my advice would be to only glue around the edges and then stretch the material across the middle. Otherwise it follows the contours of the panel and looks odd.
(This is very obvious but I didn’t realise the slightly spongy material would show the contours as badly as it did! So I had to have two takes)
Monkey, thanks again for the tip. Followed up on it and I’m pleased with the results! Quick turnaround, seems like good value at £50 plus postage. I provided the material as it came with the headliner I bought.
I no longer have a mirror on the passenger side visor, but that doesn’t bother me at all. If this was an issue perhaps you could ask them to retain it; I didn’t ask, they didn’t mention it, and now mine’s gone.
I also did the sunroof panel myself, it’s nice having everything matching. If I’m totally honest the overall difference is minimal but it’s not a huge cost / effort and 1Upholstery did a good job of it!
Has anyone had their sun visors re trimmed professionally? Any recommendations?
I recently bought a new headliner from headliner-world on eBay (it looks great, for anyone considering doing the same). They sent some spare material for covering the sun visors, which I’m tempted to do that so everything matches, but it looks too fiddly for my sausage fingers. Would like to give them to a professional.
I’ve also fitted a reproduced headlining from headliner world, based on good feedback on this forum. Really pleased - it fits well, looks very close to original and appears to be well made.
Curious how people tackled the sunroof aperture though? (A small line is already cut out of the fabric, but you need to cut the rest yourself.) I’m sure it’s not difficult but you only get one shot! Is it a case of cutting it almost to size, but leaving a 1/2 cm of additional material to tuck into the sunroof seal? And cutting in at each corner at 45 degrees?
Cheers Eddypeck. Sounds fantastic. Currently negotiating with the other half around the dates in question but fingers crossed will be signing up very shortly!
Looks great! I’ve not been to anything like this previously (as you will be able to tell from the below ), had a couple of q’s: Is the track time is suitable for total novices in a bog standard Mk2? Are the cars spaced out as they go around or are you in close proximity of someone else’s pride and joy? Thanks!
