Title: steering column bearing replacement
Post by: mk24ever on October 28, 2022, 04:44:06 AM
the steering column bearings
sound like they are eating them selves up,
even if the steering wheel goes smooth
(although slightly feeling the vibrations).

it has been like this for a while and it is not worsening.

could there however be security implications,
like a suddenly blocking steering wheel ?
has anyone had this issue before ?
how to get the bearings out ?
which replacement bearings do fit ?

now i have a picture of the noisy bearing:

instead of a top bearing in one part, i found a bush (https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/811419548a-steering-column-shaft-top-bush.html) and a support ring (https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/171419341-steering-column-plastic-support-ring.html), which probably belong to it, but no rolls:

the lower bearing (https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/171419517b-lower-steering-column-bearing.html), which is probably still ok, is on heritage parts:
