Title: Air filter / induction kit for MK2 GTi 8v

A decent panel filter in the stock airbox is the best solution for power gains.
If you want a bit of noise too, a decent panel filter in the stock airbox with the trumpet knocked out of it will be the best of both.
If you want to live particularly dangerously, you can drill out the wing side of the airbox and take the plastic blanking plate on the wing for a little more noise.

To be honest, old tech like the 8v is far less bothered by different filters.
While they have an Air Flow Meter, they don't have the same type of MAFs that modern vehicles have that get affected by different filter types.

Just go for a known brand like K&N or similar, you'll be fine.
