Title: Starter motor for 8v
Post by: Reedy88 on June 20, 2021, 12:14:23 PM
Apologies in advance for my ignorance.

Just purchased a new starter motor from heritagepartscentre which said for 1.8 and referenced PB engine code, but the starter motor has 2 spade connectors, my current one has 1 spade connector. I assume I have purchased the incorrect one, but just wanted to check before I return it.

Thanks in advance

I think I remember this being something about this. Same starter motor in different models, early K-Jet, Mk1 etc. And the 2nd spade is used in some instances, but not required on PB. When an aftermarket starter is offered it's usually a generic one to fit all models. Fairly sure the starter is fine you just don't need to plug anything into the spare spade. I replaced the starter on mine (91) when I first got it and suspect I came across this, but don't really recall, I just fitted it and it's fine.
