EddyP has been doing a great job nipping these bogus members in the bud, before they can potentially do any harm.

Having said that it's unreasonable to expect him to be on here constantly and some are still slipping through.

We can all help and spread the burden / pick up on them more quickly by posting suspect member ID's on this thread for admins. attention.

Going to say it again - the forums joining process involves just a few clicks / having any old email address and doesn't seem to be vetted.

If it's doable I'd suggest blocking them before they get in is better than reacting after the event.

Biggest give-a-way, over and above the some of the choices of member name is the use of a link to off forum sites in their profiles.

Seems to be a change of tactic and including those links to the signature instead, maybe sussed how they're getting caught?

I did try looking at the members and sorting by date registered or the number of posts but there's no easy way to identify suspects. I can't do multiple filters like zero posts joined in last 10 days etc.

Also interesting, sorting by number of posts there are a number of known original club members/admins and moderators from the old forum that haven't contributed a single post to the new platform. That is disappointing and big nail in the coffin for the forum, if the OG team don't even want to get involved - but that's a different topic.

That's the main problem, unless there's something obvious you'll not be able to say who's legit and who's joined for some other reason.

Makes you wonder how many are already registered, but not openly revealed it.

I've no idea how these things work... if it's mainly automated bots would putting even a basic registration system in place that required more than confirming an email address maybe fox them, or at the very least cause enough hassle so they move on somewhere else?

if it's actual people and they're intent on getting in, it'll be harder to combat but perhaps something like having to make 'X' amount of posts before you can attach links would disuade them?

Anything that's going to be aggro. / consume too much of their time, may make it not worth trying to join.

Something needs doing - not a good look if someone visits the site and is faced with pages of porn links, reflects on us all!

Yes... 870 plus members and more than half haven't made a post yet.

The remainder are mainly single figures too, leaves just a hardcore of a few contributing.

That's how it goes unfortunately... it's a vicious circle and with less input, comes less input so it's just self perpetuating.

This was raised before... the lack of easy image uploading which I personally think is a killer but also imagine it's not an easy fix either.

Not my call and not criticizing, but would suggest it at least should be explored... just throwing it out there for discussion.

Deleted.

I do check the most recent users who register and delete before they get the chance, but it’s impossible to go through all the users.  There are obvious ones on the member database that get banned

I have seen rules on other forums, where a regular clean up is part of the process. An email to all members, which I believe is possible to warn them if they've not posted in the last 6 months their account will be deleted (I don't know if it's possible to query the database and find out all users that haven't posted in the last 6 months in this system)???

And other things like new signs ups are limited to the areas they can post in, and have to make 20 posts before they have full access. In the probation period, they can't add pictures either. This might be tools available in other forum platforms. I just don't know.
