Engine Temp?

Hi all, engine seems to be running hot as the temp gauge goes right up to the last segment?  Takes roughly 12 mins to get there on the gauge and by that time the fans haven't kicked in?  They do work though and come on much later.  That's when a flashing warning light comes on the dashboard.
The ECU coolant temperature sensor is a green coloured one (on top), and I'm told it should have a blue coloured one?  Which I've ordered.
The radiator temperature switch (to the right, low down) I've ordered a new one.
The fans definitely work.
Green sensor...Blue sensor, does it make that much difference?
Engine is...PB235703
1.8T 150
20 valve
The original radiator has some damaged fins, and I'm thinking of a replacement.  Any recommendations would helpful.
