1.6 to 1.8 Conversion Question

Hi I have an 8v petrol 1991 1.6, driver the con rod has snapped and now I need to buy a replacement block for it. Apparently a 1.6 head will bolt onto a 1.8 block. What I wanted to know though if I did buy a 1.8 block, does the 1.8 block have the same configuration as the 1.6, will everything be able to bolt off my block and bolt onto the 1.8 block without any modification. Does the 1.8 block have any extra things that means it isn't compatible with the 1.6. I'm not in the position to do a full conversion, but since I need to replace the block anyway, I see this as an opportunity to carry out a minor upgrade.
