How To Interior Strip Down - Front Carpet Removal

(thanks to Monkey)

In this how to, I'll show you how to do a basic strip down of the lower interior including the seats, lower dashboard and carpet.

First off, the front seats.  They're quite straightforward to remove.

If you look at the rear of the seats, you need to remove the plastic covers for the runners either side of the exhaust tunnel. The one on the right has already been removed

Once you take out this small plastic fixing, it will slide backwards and come out.

If you look at the very front of your seat at the bottom, you'll see this.  Take a 10mm spanner to it and have it off.  Then you can slide the seat right back off the rails and take the seat out.

To take the rear seats out, just pop the circled covers off and take the screws behind off. That's it!

To take the carpet out is a little more involved.

First off you need to take the side sills off.  Take off the circled screw and then gently lift the sill upwards...

...uncovering the various poppers.

Next you need to drop the lower dash panels off and take the centre console out.

The screws for the dash panels are highlighted by the red circles.  The blue circle is where you will find a screw that holds the centre console in.

Then slide the console towards the back, with a little persuasion, you can get it past the gear shifter.  It helps if you do this on a flat surface so you can let the handbrake off to give you a little more room.

Don't forget to disconnect the feed to the cigarette lighter though.

Next up, you're looking for these little fellas.

They're located on the bulkhead in the highlighted areas

To find the one on the far right, you may find it easier to drop the fusebox forward for access.

To take the dead pedal off, you need to unscrew the accelerator pedal stop, push the centres of the two highlighted fixings through and then pull them out along with the dead pedal (don't forget to collect the centres again once you have the carpet out).

The front carpet has tabs that overlaps the edge of the car, so you'll need to pull the door rubbers up to access them

And repeat on the passenger side.

By now, the last thing that should be holding your carpet in is the bonnet pull, so take the screwdriver to that too.

Now pull the carpet towards the rear of the car and it should be free

Uncovering (hopefully!) a tidy floor!

Thanks for looking :)
