Seat covers mk3 fitting in an mk2?

Hi,

I have found mk3 seat covers with the same pattern like my mk2’s.
Can I use these covers? Will they fit? What are the differences?

Ps: i don’t have seats nor the mousse of a Golf mk3 but only the covers!!

Thanks!

The seats will be different. Mk3 seats are wider. So you might be able to pull the covers onto mk2 frames but they will be saggy and it’s likely the fixings won’t line up.

You can fit the whole mk3 seat into a mk2, but you have to cut and weld the base.

Alternatively you could make use of the fabric to repair worn mk2 seats if that’s what you need. Are you any good at sewing?

I have put mk3 covers onto mk2 in leather but you will have to bodge it a bit with cable ties for underneath, but i did use the mk3 foam base on the drivers from the mk3 as the mk2 one was shot, they came out ok.

IIRC the late MK2 GTI seats are like the early MK3.

@t2000 I'm assuming you used tiewraps instead of replacing the metal hog rings? A good idea.

But MK2 seats are sooo much easier than MK7 Fiesta seats which have 10+ rings. You can imagine what F.U.N. that was transferring heating pads over and re-assembly of both sets!

I used small cable ties and cut off the excess, just straight through the hog ring holes direct to the metal bar underneath, although just thinking about it they were B3/4 Passat seats, only issue was the headrest area in the Passat where not the same so not a great fit.

They sat a bit higher than stock seat and the drivers one was firm as i used some of what was left of the MK2 base foam and added it to the MK3 stuff as i like a firm seat, came out ok in the end although there were holes on the lower sides where I took the plastic trays off, couldn't see them with the doors closed though.

They lasted 20 years so definitely doable.
