Speedo Drive

Hi All

I have refitted my instrument panel and speedo drive cable, when i turn the red nylon gear at the gearbox end the needle moves, there is no obvious damage to the drive and it feels like its fitting into the box OK but is there a trick to locating it, i cant see where it sits because of the gearbox oil, the speedo is not working BTW. If it goes in the hole without any resistance or binding and sits with the bolt hole in the right place then that's it really.

I assume the tip of the red gear should locate in the hole so that the gears mesh?

Yeah, that's right.
It sounds very much like the red gear hasn't meshed correctly, but just to be sure, have you tried it with the other end out the speedo to see if the square drive works?
