Re: Worst bits Reply #15 – December 07, 2021, 08:31:14 PM I bought it to drive daily between Yorks and Lancs over the M62 and return daily. In the summer I arrived steaming hot with sun roof hair. In the winter the heater was good but I could feel the heat being sucked out of the car. While I’m in moaning mode, yes it looks good but it fades in the sun.
Re: Worst bits Reply #16 – December 07, 2021, 08:58:48 PM Tornado pink paintwork which I unfortunately didn't take care of enough over the years. Most cars of that era had red paint issues too though. The brakes aren't great but I make the most of the good handling. There isn't the reassuring thud when you close the door. I suspect that is partly due to less sound deadening as well as less 'bulk'. I do feel more vulnerable when driving the Golf compared to the Skoda Octy. However when things go wrong it's cheaper to fix, easier for DIY and some parts have a longer life than the increased use of plastic which isn't up to the job in modern cars. 2 Likes
Re: Worst bits Reply #17 – December 07, 2021, 09:55:10 PM Having to push down the aerial, apply the steering shield lock, trigger the secret switch, check very door then arm the alarm before nipping in to buy a loaf of bread. Edit, that may be a historic beef. These days I think I would just leave it and shoo off the admirers when I return. Last Edit: December 07, 2021, 10:02:43 PM by PWardy 1 Likes

P.s. my old one had electric aerial. Very cool retro accessory 👍
Re: Worst bits Reply #19 – December 08, 2021, 08:03:37 AM I think mine is the paranoia when I leave it outside.I've got a tracker and immobiliser, but still worried about someone sticking their own tracker on and taking it.
Re: Worst bits Reply #20 – December 08, 2021, 08:47:31 AM Good Morning Mr Grumpy is back. That awful wimpy road side jack. Not only does it skin your knuckles on the tarmac but it also rips the car’s under-seal off. 1 Likes

But was never able to find it anywhere so I guess I didn't. Re: Worst bits Reply #25 – December 08, 2021, 04:16:23 PM I've spent half the day with the car and couldn't see anything else to moan about. Then a good, and probably the last, moan came to mind, noise:Engine noiseExhaust noiseTransmission noiseTyre noiseWind noiseand finally, and probably the worst, sun roof buffeting. 1 Likes
Re: Worst bits Reply #26 – December 08, 2021, 05:00:16 PM Oh yeah, noise is a good one. I have a full Miltek exhaust on mine (late spec so crap carpet) at 70 on the Motorway the constant drone is awful. Luckily my doors fit well, haven't dropped like on my old one, but there is more wind noise from later spec door mirrors than early ones.
Re: Worst bits Reply #27 – December 08, 2021, 07:09:47 PM I have a full genuine exhaust in the attic with genuine clamps. It’s going on the car. Then I can moan about the 8v GTi genuine exhaust tone. Sounds like a tank on cold start 🤣 Last Edit: December 08, 2021, 07:18:15 PM by PWardy
Re: Worst bits Reply #28 – December 08, 2021, 07:12:11 PM pretty common actually. Can’t believe this if I type a word beginning with r and ending with e that means scarce, 4 letters. This appears - pretty common actually. Could somebody else give it a try and see what happens. Got the problem on my phone and PC so suspect it is the web site.
