Mk 2 1.3 golf 1988 front brake dust covers

Hi All, new to this forum. I recently bought a 1988 MK2 golf, barn find, completely original, and it fantastic nic, having only had 2 owners, done £75k miles and not been used for the last 15 years, stored in a garage. Its only a 1.3, but i love her. Soo much fun to drive. The only things to be showing bad corrosion are the suspension components. the actual body shell is amazing hardly any rust anywhere.

So i completely renewed the rear bean the other week, found a used beam on ebay, had it shot blasted and coated and renewed the back brakes, all relatively cheap to buy i thought. All went well, so now i'm going to do the front. I've bought the control arms, ones with the larger ball joints which i hope is correct as its change over year.

I'm a bit hesitant though as i bought the front disc brake dust covers from same place and they are wrong. they sent the 1/3 type covers, and on inspection, mine are 3/4 type ones, going all the way around the disc, apart from caliper slot. I cant seem to find online, anywhere that gives me the correct parts? does anybody know the part numbers of the 3/4 disc covers or where i can buy a set of new or good S/H to be blasted and coated? Mine are not vented discs by the way.

Any help much appricated

Have you got pictures that you can post?  I had this trouble and fitted what I think are MK3 splash guards, they are a very different design.
For part numbers look them up on 7Zap, https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1989-92/6/615-118000/ search for your year and model.  I'm fairly confident though MK2 splash guards are NLA.

It's interesting you've posted this. I've just picked up a set of 16v hubs and callipers to upgrade my 8v GTI. I need to buy 256 discs and pads and also I'll need to get the splash guards. I've been trying to look up part numbers and find the right parts too.

According to 7zap the part numbers I need are 191615309A and from what I can work out these are the ones that I might need,

even though they look different to the diagram
https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1991-110/6/615-118040/#10

Are these like the ones you have bought?

I think this is what you need https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1991-110/6/615-117000/#4
But again the diagram looks different to the ones @PWardy has in the photo.

I assume either inaccurate illustrations, or the design has been superseded over the years.

Hi all, yes mine look like the image 4 on this link https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1991-110/6/615-117000/#4 Not like either of the 2 images on this post which are both too small, ie 1/3 of the round. mine are 3/4 of the round. The other problem is, 1988 is change over year, so its unclear so far the correct part numbers. so the picture looks right on this link, but when you take the part number and add it to google, it comes up with the shields like the above pictures? Not getting very far!

191 615 312 B this part number in google, brings up pictures of full guards and the 1/3 guards? Is there nowhere where you can put chassis number in for old vw stuff and it comes up with correct part?

The illustrations are quite accurate, the design has changed.

Well, that's what I would expect since I was trained as a technical illustrator in the early 90s and we took our trade very seriously.  8)

But if you look at item 4 on this link
https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1991-110/6/615-117000/#4
then copy and paste the part number for item 4 and put that into google or one of these parts places, the image is completely different, its s a third of the size. That is whats confusing.

I see what you mean, but if you look at the bolt holes they look like they line up. So it's likely the design has just superseded what the original illustration depicts. The shield is clearly smaller but they must have worked out that it's still adequate.

I'd say if you check out the returns policy from where you buy and go for it, you can see if it fits. Even if it's different and if there's any problem just return it.

I still haven't got any closer to solving this for the 16v hubs I bought.

The original part number is 191615309A, which is NLA. The ones that come up have a VW OEM part no of: 357615311A

But when I search on these with a 16v listed most results say this will not fit.  That said they fit mk3, and Seat etc which are often donor cars for 16v type hubs, so I'll order some and see what happens. Hopefully, I'll update soon.

Any joy with the ones you need yet?
