Gearbox earth connection

Hi,

Could I trouble someone for a pic of where the earth connects on the gearbox of a mk2 GTI 16v?

I think the garage missed it off when they did the clutch.

I can’t see/remember where it runs from and to though, any pics would be greatly appreciated.

Think this is the culprit for a fried ECU.

That would certainly account for killing the ECU. Are the garage taking any responsibility for this?

I think the earth strap is slightly different on early and late cars. But I don’t think it really matters what bolt you use. Some one may be able to confirm.

Also worth getting mk3 or mk4 battery cables they are chunkier.

I can also vouch that this will fry an ECU (found out the hard way).

Both Earths originate from the post behind the battery (which is where the battery 0V should be wired to).
Depending on the year,
On early cars, you'll be earthing to the gearbox bracket that goes from the end of the gearbox to the gearbox mount.
On late ones, it goes directly to the one of the top two bolts on the bell housing, you'll see one of the 19mm bolts has a small m8 thread sticking out for this very purpose.

And I can also vouch for mk4 cables too, made starting much quicker!
