Do I need to fix my dipstick?! September 18, 2020, 12:53:00 PM My engine oil dipstick seems to be missing its socket - previous owner had somehow rigged one up with insulating tape - do I need to do anything about it? Thanks for any help.Trying to add a picture:https://www.dropbox.com/s/kj6mzdug844junw/oil%20dipstick%20%28reduced%29.jpg?dl=0 Last Edit: September 18, 2020, 12:57:14 PM by jonmitchel

Reply #1 – September 18, 2020, 01:45:12 PM Yes, you do need to fix it!If you don't have that, you don't accurately know how much oil you have.Fortunately, they are very cheap...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK2-MK3-DIPSTICK-DIP-STICK-GUIDE-C77/190532944821?hash=item2c5ca603b5:g:LDMAAOxyu0BRe0hH

Re: Do I need to fix my dipstick?! Reply #4 – September 21, 2020, 04:55:05 PM If you put the new one in a cup of boiling water and fit it while still hot, it will slide on easier and be less likely to split or break! 2 Likes
