Side repeater indicators

Hi! My daughter is buying a 1985 GL. For its age, it's in pretty good condition. As expected, there's some rust around the wheel arches which will need attention. It's got all the service paperwork. What else should she look out for?
I was surprised to see that there are no side repeater indicators, just GL badges. I've since discovered that these weren't a legal requirement until April 1986. VW were clearly aware of the changes in requirements as, underneath the badges, the holes are there. Is it worth having them fitted or would that be frowned upon as it would detract from the originality of the vehicle?
I used to own a 1991 Mk2 Driver 1.8 in jade green and, before that, a Mk1 Golf in metallic blue. Sadly, when I did an internet search, both these vehicles no longer seem to exist.

If I were you, I'd leave them off.
The circuit is setup to go faster if there is a bulb out, you may upset something if you add more to the circuit.

Also, I'd prefer to keep them off, closer to originality, mk2s are very much going that way nowadays

If it were straight forward I would want them, but as monkey says you’ll need the loom and it might upset the resistance… although vw are pretty good at putting things in place for all models so it might just be plug and play. Worth investigating.
 

It’s not a legal requirement but as a motorbike rider, information is everything when on the road. So being able to take information from others is as important as being able to give it.

My daughter has just started driving and I want her to be as safe as possible.

If a side repeater stops some one crashing into her as they wrongly predicted her movements it’s worth it. Sod the oem guys, it’s always reversible.

It winds me up when the kids want to delete the side repeaters and put in these blanks on cars later than 86.

But that’s just my opinion
